The Old Fire Station is a historic building in the middle of Charlbury. Re-designed in 2017, as a luxury private residence, this lovely home is a comfortable, civilised residence now occasionally available to rent and recently awarded 5*GOLD by Visit Britain.
Situated in the famous “GoldenTriangle” between Chipping Norton, Stow on the Wold and Burford, in the heart of the charming Cotswold town of Charlbury, just 12 miles from Oxford and 6 miles from Woodstock, the Old Fire Station is within walking distance of the mainline GWR London – Paddington train. It is the perfect place to spend a special occasion holiday or to relax for a weeks walking, cycling or chillaxing.
Charlbury boasts fabulous pubs and is just a short drive from private member’s club Soho Farmhouse. The Old Fire Station offers the kind of stylish welcome you would expect from a boutique hotel but with the personal touches of a private self-catering retreat.
We offer a cosy welcome, contemporary interiors and fittings with some great features such as the log burning stove and stunning courtyard garden with a large table suitable for sunny al fresco lunches. It is the perfect retreat from the stresses and strains of day to day life.
The large soaking tubs, using Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet bath and shower gels we provide, are great to lie in after a long day walking the Cotswold Way. The comfy Tempur mattresses ideal for recovering after hitting the Festivals of Wilderness at Cornbury Park or Big Festival at Alex James’s farm near Kingham.
More rural pursuits include the Countryfile Live event at nearby Blenheim Palace which is also home to the International Horse Trials which take place mid-September as well as the great Badminton 3 day Horse Trials in early May.
The Old Fire Station is a great base for racing at Cheltenham, Stratford, Towcester or Warwick. There is so much to do in the Cotswolds be it a cookery course at Daylesford or Thyme in Southrop or attending the Cheltenham Literary Festival in October. Take the kids to Adam Henson’s farm or the Burford Wildlife Park. Watch Morris Dancers or the Tetbury Wool sack races or spend Easter going to egg hunts and viewing the snowdrops and bluebells of our beautiful local forests.
Because The Old Fire Station prides itself on being a home from home and luxury self-catering, you will find a welcome pack of essentials such as milk, butter, eggs and bread waiting for you. The house is just a short walk from the Charlbury Deli and cafe which stocks lovely cakes and cheeses and does a great breakfast. Also the Co-Op shop is open early to late for anything you might need.
The Old Fire Station has a large King Size bedroom with its own bathroom, a second bedroom with full size twin beds. On the ground floor is a bathroom complete with walk-in shower, ideal for those with mobility issues. There is also an Xbox360 and 8 games.
Children are accepted at The Old Fire Station, on the basis that you please read, carefully, our Terms and Conditions about our acceptance of children due to the free-standing bath in Bedroom 1 and stairs as we cannot take responsibility for their safety and your booking is taken at your own risk for your children’s safety at all times please.
